It was a typcial Memorial Day weekend: hot, sunny and traffic was backed up on the Delaware
Memorial Bridge as usual. However, this holiday weekend, motorists
would be welcomed by a 33-foot statue of the Blessed Mother Mary on the
side of the highway. Pristine audio was provided by BEL.com Event
Productions for the Dedication Mass which featured a multi-ethnical
showcase of choirs, dancing, music and liturgy. Not only could the
statue be seen from a great distance, the services could be heard at
just as great of a distance for the more than 1,000 atendees.
Bishop Saltarelli and others speaking were heard throughout the service
thanks to the latest in wireless technology. The statue of Our Lady
Queen of Peace is 33-feet tall and 15-feet wide, or, as sculptor
Charles Parks stated, is "One big mother."
