Wilmington, DE - November 12, 2006 - Junior Achievements of Delaware will be featured on ABC World News Tonight Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006 at 6:30PM EST. Junior Achievements of Delaware was the first in the nation to bring a facility where elementary school students could run a virtual town (appropriately named "BizTown") and learn the routine of working and paying bills.
"BizTown" is a unique facility housing an entire city of industry under one roof. With its corporate sponsors, JA brings real business to the kids. Alongside with the likes of WSFS and Happy Harry’s, BEL.com’s television studio is an operational production facility. JA Delaware gives students a chance to experience life in the workforce for a day. The students prepare for weeks at their respective schools learning their trades and arrive at "Biz Town" ready to do business.
Students “employed” by BEL.com for the day produce and broadcast commercials for neighboring businesses as well as document the day’s activities. The miniature BEL.com television studio features a Sony robotic camera controlled by a computer and a 42’ plasma display screen. The studio also houses a staging area complete with backdrop and furniture to hold interviews and other broadcast events.
BEL.com was not only the first supporter of this program, but also the first tenant to sign on when this facility was an empty warehouse.
JA Delaware also hosts the Finance Park program as well as community events. Junior Achievement of Delaware celebrates over 50 years of inspiration to young minds everywhere.
