Beijing, China - August 2008 - (BEL.com Camera Operator/Video Specialist) Ben Goertz, has been selected by NBC Sports for the 2008 Olympic Internship Program and will spend July and August working in Beijing, video assisting at the Olympics.

Photo By Carlos HolmesMr. Goertz was chosen from a pool of over 1,000 applicants from colleges and universities across the country.  About 500 students were phone interviewed to fill a mere 107 positions. The DSU student said he was excited about what this could mean for him professionally. “I am looking forward to meeting new contacts and to the productions that those new contacts are going to take me to,” said Mr. Goertz, a lifelong resident of Dover and graduate of Polytech High School.   According to Vince Ciammaichelli, DSU Department of Mass Communication studio manager and television production instructor, Mr. Goertz was chosen because of his impressive experience in and out of the classroom.

Mr. Ciammaichelli knows Ben well. Prior to becoming an TV production instructor at DSU, Mr. Ciammaichelli taught the same at Polytech High School, where he was also Ben’s teacher since his sophomore year.

“I’m proud that he will be showing his talent and skills halfway around the world working for NBC,” Mr. Ciammaichelli said. “His goal has always been to be a part of the technical aspect of television production, and this is an example of where it is taking him – to work for one of the top networks in sports.”

Two other DSU television production students, Bruce Royster and Kyle Ingram, were also interviewed but not chosen for Beijing.  However, they are being considered for a "state-side" Olympic internship with NBC Sports in New York City.

BEL.com Rising Stars: Joel Gragg
Written by Rod Kim
Friday, 01 August 2008

Every so often, there are those albums (not just songs, entire albums, remember those?) that you stumble across and days, weeks...even years later, you wish you could discover all over again; albums like Sgt. Peppers, River of Dreams, Little Earthquakes and so on.  Joel GraggJoel Gragg's latest studio project, "When The Dust Settles" is one of those albums.  The terms "brilliant" and "timeless" could describe any given track from the opening "All My Life" to the epic closing title track, but there's so much more.  "I Had A Dream" picks you up from wherever you are and drops you right in the charm of Nashville and immediately puts a smile on your heart.  "Lack of Love" is pleasant surprise that not only sings a message today's world needs to be reminded of, it features a strong backing vocal by Gragg's wife, Beth, whom hopefully will  be releasing solo material soon as well.  "Redemption Is Nigh" is by far the most courageous track, successfully executing a religously flavored folk-rock tune without sounding trite or compromising the message...something only those destined to become legends can do.  There are a few tender moments as well, such as "Room To Breathe" and "I Still Remember Us" that could comfortably be used in a cinematic moment where Zach Braff is learning an important life lesson.

After experiencing this album, you'll want to dig up past gems from Gragg, like "Peace" and "Ghosts of NYC".

The moral of this story is that Joel Gragg is destined to be one of those artists you'll either wish you would have discovered earlier or bragging about how you knew about him before he became a legend.
