How much hard drive do I have left to record? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nick Marques
A Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) that we answer when clients rent our multitrack hard disk recorders is how much time they will have on the drive to record.

The MX-2424 records 44,100 Hz at 24-bits. This comes out to be 132,300 bytes per second. A 9 GB hard drive is technically 9663676416 byes (assuming that’s the size after it’s formatted). At this rate, you could record about 20 hours of audio on one track… or 76 minutes on 16 tracks (about the length of a normal audio CD).

So to simplify this, use the rule of thumb 125 track minutes per gb.
